SLRC Horse Trials Teams at Area 1 Qualifier

SLRC successfully fielded a Novice team and an Intermediate team at the recent Area 1 Horse Trials near Strathaven. A glorious sunny day, with excellent ground conditions made for a fun event, and it was rosettes all round for SLRC.
The Novice Team - Katherine Edridge (Bolero), Leah Flemming (Pyramid), Jenny Foster (Laughing Law), Claudia Nisbit (Executive Ben) - had a last minute change of rider, with Claudia nobly stepping in on the Sunday morning and frantically learning her dressage test on the way across! Despite a couple of problems cross country, it was a tightly fought contest, with the Novice Team finishing the day in 4th place and Leah taking 5th individual. Brilliant performances from everyone and it was good to see some new team members!
The Intermediate Team - Amy Brown (Kasilia) Leah Flemming (Shawhill Hayboy), Ailsa MacTaggart (Cumano) - were under extreme pressure as they had lost their fourth team member so had to have all three of them complete or they’d be disqualified. Excellent dressage scores from all three of them (despite the dressage arenas on a hill!), but the show jumping caused a few problems with its undulating, twisty course. Amy went clear, but Leah had a couple down, as did Ailsa. The cross country course was very much up to height and asked a few questions, with a tight optimum time. Amy flew round clear, but Ailsa and Leah both had run outs at the corner fence with the scary chicken! Still, despite this small set back, they came in very fast, having thoroughly enjoyed the run. All three were delighted to be placed 2nd.
Amy also ran a horse as an individual (Just a Punt) and had a super double clear on him. The Intermediate individual results saw Amy taking 2nd place and 3rd place in the Intermediate, and Ailsa taking 5th place.
Thanks to the SLRC support team (fuelled by Viv’s picnic!) for travelling across to Strathaven and helping to make it a great SLRC day out.
